ALAIA KITE BOARD (con't)
The term Alaia was the name the old Hawaiians gave to their
original heavy wood surfboards. Michael wanted to honor
the look, feel and challenge of the old boards that Duke Kahanamoku
and the other early surfers used as they pioneered the sport.
"At first, riding this board is like being on a really bad amusement park ride",
said Michael. "As I mentioned, there are no foot straps to hold
you on the board and no fins to guide you through the water.
But then you get use to it and begin to use the slipping and
sliding to your advantage.
It's a wonderful sense of freedom!”
